Humane Endpoints for Mice in Research

Humane endpoints are critical for ensuring animal welfare and scientific validity in research involving mice. Directive 2010/63/EU mandates that death as an endpoint should be avoided wherever possible, replaced by earlier, humane criteria based on clinical signs. While several resources exist, including the Utrecht 3Rs Center’s online platform, there is a lack of harmonized, mouse-specific guidance across Europe. This working group will address this gap by developing clear, evidence-based recommendations for humane endpoints in mice, facilitating refinements through both ethical and scientific rigor.
