Ensuring high standards of animal welfare and quality in animal-based research requires well-educated and competent laboratory animal caretakers, technicians and technologists. While initial education, training, and CPD structures exist across Europe, there is considerable variation between countries in terms of content, depth, and formal recognition of qualifications. To promote comparability, transparency, and mobility within the profession, it is essential to define clear and structured learning outcomes corresponding to different grades or career stages.
