Learning Outcomes for laboratory animal caretakers, technicians and technologists - FELASA-EFAT WG

Ensuring high standards of animal welfare and quality in animal-based research requires well-educated and competent laboratory animal caretakers, technicians and technologists. While initial education, training, and CPD structures exist across Europe, there is considerable variation between countries in terms of content, depth, and formal recognition of qualifications. In particular, the learning outcomes expected at different levels (Abelson et al. Harmonisation of education, training and continuing professional development for laboratory animal caretakers, technicians and technologists: Report of the FELASA-EFAT Working Group. Laboratory Animals. 2023; https://felasa.eu/working-groups/past/id/9) within the profession are not well defined or harmonized across Europe. To promote comparability, transparency, and mobility within the profession, it is essential to define clear and structured learning outcomes corresponding to different grades or career stages.
