Health & welfare management of laboratory chickens

Currently, standardized health and hygienic recommendations for livestock animals used in scientific procedures are lacking and thus remain an obstacle in managing the stated problems. The lack of standardized recommendations may thus contribute to compromised animal welfare and difficulties in applying the 3Rs principle. The working group will develop new and practical recommendations for animal health and hygienic control of chickens that can be applied to cage and cage-free housing. The work will focus on Gallus gallus domesticus of all ages (including embryos).
